Good Giving Weekly: GIVING UP
February 13, 2018

Greetings 29 Gifts Community,
Happy Valentine’s Day. Do you know what your heart desires? What beliefs, ideas or habits can you GIVE UP that will bring you closer to the life you want? Are you yearning to try something new, creative and fun? Try writing a love letter to yourself and post it in the comments. Mine is a poem.

IN LOVE a poem by cami walker
Live your dream. Each day.
Find it inside yourself.
Sitting quietly. Waiting.
To be unleashed
in a wild, hurling frenzy of
Fun. Excitement. Joy.
Truth finds you
in the silence,
in the illuminating darkness
inside your belly.
The soft centered woman
you are
is in love—
with herself,
with her body,
with her life.

February 10th, I made a pot of coconut curry chicken soup for my church food pantry. My friend Ramona and I made food for a church brother whose wife died so we dropped that off on the way. We serve a warm meal free to anyone in need and people can get canned or dry goods, meat and produce. I stopped into a 12-step meeting first and shared about the fourth and fifth step work I am doing with Susie, my sponsor. Step 4 is write a searching and fearless moral inventory (fears and resentments) and 5 is admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

There are patterns in my inventory, but they are all classic behaviors and traits that I share with my fellow alcoholics and addicts: Lying, Cheating, Stealing, Abusing, Denial, Victimization, Self-Pity, Judgmental, Resentful, Selfish, Afraid, Sick, Diseased, Jealous. On the flip side, my character assets that I want to nurture, include: Creative, Sensitive, Intelligent, Communicative, Caring, Giving, Funny, Quirky, Loyal, Friendly, Open Minded and Trust worthy.

I gave people at the pantry 29 Gifts Tags and some yummy oranges. I greeted people and helped clean up. I reconnected with a man named Rich who has been homeless for six months. He was at the October pantry and he remembered me. We had a major snowstorm in Denver so it was freezing. Our church serves as a warming site so homeless people can get free food, coats, boots, sweaters, hats, scarves--many handmade by our church knitting circle.

WISE WORDS FROM MBALI CREAZZO, Medicine Woman and Mother of our Movement.
"One of my favourite gifts to give is presence. We are living in a world of such high technology where people are distracted all the time. The biggest gift you can give is presence and witnessing."

Simply renew your commitment and start over with Gift 1. Starting over is the suggestion of Mbali, who gave the 29 Gifts "Prescription" to Founder, Cami Walker. Don't stress and don't quit. Starting over does not mean you failed; it is a way release the energy from your giving ritual and allow it to rebuild. We also suggest you sit down with your giving journal and reflect on your day. Was there a moment you offered a gift unconsciously or opportunities you didn't act on?

Are you an artist, writer or entrepreneur who would you like to share your product or service with our community? We need giveaways for March and April. DM Community Manager Melanie Peters to sponsor a giveaway. Thanks Melanie for your service and support!

29 Life Lessons: Reflections On Living and Giving is the much anticipated sequel to Cami Walker’s New York Times bestselling self-help memoir, 29 Gifts: How A Month of Giving Can Change Your Life.
