Reread the book & still strikes a cord in my heart. Started the 29 days today.
My Day One ended up with a gift given to me. REALLY needed new tires & currently not within my finances to get them, so my father treated me to an early Christmas gift of new tires. I did some research and found a good deal to try to save him as much money as I could. We went today (Black Friday & a day I didn't want to even leave the house) because he was worried and wanted to get it over with. As luck would have it, they were very busy. Explained what we were looking for to the sales guy and as much as my Dad wanted to get them ASAP I decided that was with family & wouldn't need my car until I head back to my home Monday. The sales guy said it would be at least 45 minutes with all the people lined up so far. To help make the staff's day easier, I said that I would be happy to leave the car til Sunday since I was in no rush. I'm sure someone else probably was shorter on time than I was. The guy was THRILLED and looked at my slightly skeptical. He checked my current worn tires and ended up giving me a deal where he bought the 2 tires that were still slightly good and ended up getting me 4 brand new ones at a great rate, then clued me in that there was a rebate where I could get a $100 VISA sent to me. Something he didn't have to tell me about. So I have sent in the rebate and even though my Dad said this was his gift to me & I should keep it, I am having it mailed directly to him.
Not exactly what I expected day one to be, but when I saw the chaos and demanding customers at the shop, it felt right. My Dad thought I was nuts. By the end of the day I have my car back with great, safe new tires.
My husband works in retail, so I know firsthand (or would that be secondhand?) how much the staff appreciated your thoughtfulness on such a hectic day. And it paid off!
