finished listening to the 29 Gifts audio book and I'm excitedly awaiting the arrival of the paperback version I ordered on line because I want to physically highlight and mark in it. While I haven't officially started day 1 gift giving yet (I plan to start tomorrow) I have actually found myself gifting since I started listening to the book just naturally. This is going to be fantastic!
Day 22 - gift 22... I'm not sure which one to highlight today - I chose to give my hubby the whole day off. He usually cooks breakfast and dinner on Saturdays and I do the the cleaning afterward. Today, I cooked breakfast and dinner and cleaned up after both. That felt good. I also knit 2 scarves to donate to the homeless shelter. I have more to knit but got 2 done today. And, I gave a pair of shoes to someone who would use them when I haven't. I bought them a couple of years ago but never wore them due to issues with my right foot, I can not longer wear that high of a heel. She liked them, so I gave them to her. As I've mentioned before, my new norm is to look to do good ALWAYS! It's only 7pm. I wonder home much more gifting I can squeeze in!!!
Day 21 - gift 21... Dry erase markers, an eraser and spray cleaner. One of my co-workers had a white board installed. I waited for 3 days to see something written on the board that is within my sight lines, nothing. I took a closer look - no markers or eraser were with the board. I just recently moved workstations and lost my white board but had the accessories. I offered them to my co-worker. He was quite happy as he noted, ya, I have to buy those - I didn't realize the board came without them. Now he has a complete set of what he needs and I feel good. This gift giving is crazy satisfying! I LOVE it.
Day 20 - gift 20... I found someone who is interested in reading 29 gifts after sharing my experience with her. She's going to be reading the book I just bought for me :) I'm grateful to have you guys to share this with my "virtual" friends and now I will feel the joy of having a coworker to share with in my physical world. I'm hoping this goes viral at work. Let's save the world, one person at a time. Thank you Cami Walker!
Day 19 - gift 19... One of my staff was in an accident a few days ago. She's doing ok but was hit by a car. Today, I noticed pain on her face as she tried to do the simplest of movements. I sent her home early and told her not to worry about trying to pay back the 'time' I gifted her. She was grateful. And OH!!! my 29 gifts book arrived today. I purchased it online because I wanted a physical copy. I initially listened to the audio version. I'm going to read and make notations unless I find someone who needs this more than me. In which case, I will give it away.
Day 17 - gift 17 - Christmas gift for Rolando. I don't know Rolando - I selected his name off a gift tree. I discovered an organization today called Operation Friendship Seniors Society. Today's gift opportunity. This is a group who facilitates senior citizens who are on very low income and no family to assist them to get their Christmas wish lists filled. Rolando listed that he wanted slippers, toiletries and games. I went to the task of shopping and bought him the items on his list. I won't meet Rolando but I was pleased to know he will have a gift to open that meets his desires. This feels amazing.
Day 15 - gift 15... Saturday = sleep in day. I gave up sleeping in to help my son start his day off right. He's 20, has type 1 diabetes, celiac disease and thyroid disease. So we're very familiar with autoimmune diseases. Anyway, during my work week - Monday to Friday, if he's working, quite often I just wake up earlier and help out. Today, I set my alarm for 4:30 am on purpose to help him out. You see, being diabetic, he "has" to eat before he can leave, especially since he's driving. But, being celiac, he can't just eat "anything" - so I prepared a Gluten free breakfast and packed lunch for him. This is a normal activity for our household but since he has to be at work at 6 am and I don't work today - my gift is giving up my Saturday sleep in (that I absolutely love btw). Happy Saturday.
Day 14 - gift 14... A hug for someone who 'really' needed it. I don't even know him but our paths crossed today during an unfortunate incident. He needed a hug, it was my gift.
Day 13 - gift 13... The pink, glitter shoe. We're decorating mini Christmas trees at work. Broken into teams of 2 and encouraged to use a theme. 2 of my staff picked Barbie, pretty in pink as their theme. The tree is very glittery, pink and silver. I just happened to have a mini pink and silver decorative high heal shoe - about 2.5 inches long that I brought into work today and gave them for their tree. OMG! There were squeals of joy. LOL, who knew that would give such joy.
